Hawaii Island Police are conducting a Coroner’s Inquest investigation after the discovery of a body Saturday morning near the Wainaku Scenic Lookout just outside of Hilo.
The identity of the female body is being withheld pending positive identification and notification of next of kin. However, the body was located in the general area where Megan May Funderburk was last seen on Sunday evening (Feb. 9).
Police detectives with the Area I Criminal Investigation Section are continuing this investigation. At this time, foul play is not suspected. An autopsy will be performed early next week to determine the exact cause of death.
